Wow, has it really been almost 2 years since I posted something here? I’ll try to get this going again, though it will probably focus mostly on amusing anecdotes. The photos are still the main attraction of this site and do more to chronicle their lives than anything I put here.
One of Sam and Nate’s favorite things to do in the evenings is watch music videos on YouTube. One of their favorites (particularly Nate’s) is Cloud Cult’s Pretty Voice. We decided to make our own video of them covering it. Go see it here!
No commentsHi All,
Hope everyone is doing their best to stay cool! As you may have noticed, we don’t write these news updates as often as we used to, and so much has happened with the kids since the last time we wrote that I don’t even know where to begin. So I’ll just keep it short.
Most of the big changes are with Nate, and most have been in just the last two months. In that time, he has grown 2 teeth, gone from baby food to “big people” food, learned to crawl, and is now WALKING…with a little help from his walker toy. He had his 9-month checkup (a little over a month ago), and he’s doing great on all fronts. He’s right at the 50th percentile for weight, but is above average in height. Yes, ladies, he’s tall and slender to go with those dark eyes, and he’s single.
Sam is also doing great. She went through a funny stuttering phase recently. Mom read that it’s common and that it basically means her vocabulary is growing faster than her mouth can keep up. Apparently that was the case, because one day she just snapped out of it. The things that come out of her mouth continue to amaze and amuse us.
No commentsHello All,
We hope that everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! We have been keeping very busy with two little ones at home, we are amazed at how quick the time has gone. Nate is now 5 months old and enjoys watching his big sister Sam. Sam loves to shower Nate with hugs and kisses and show him the ropes around the house. We are looking forward to the spring and the chance to get outside with the kids. We have added some pictures for your viewing pleasure until next time keep warm!!

Happy Holidays!
Hope everyone is surviving the snow and cold! (If you live in these parts, anyway.) Sam and Nate are both doing fantastic. Nate had his 2-month checkup a couple weeks ago, and he is a big (90th percentile for weight!) healthy boy. Mom just started back to work last week. She’ll be working 4-day weeks and spend Fridays home with the kids. Sam’s vocabulary keeps improving - we’re amazed and amused by all the things that come out of her mouth.
As promised, SamIsSoBig.com got a complete facelift and is now much more “Nate-friendly”, although the name won’t change, at least for now. Hope you like it. Lots of new pictures to follow!
No commentsHappy Fall,
Well we are quickly approaching Nate’s 1 month celebration and Sam’s 2nd birthday! Life has gotten back to a semi normal routine. Todd has returned to work after spending two weeks at home helping out in every and anway possible. (I am one lucky lady!) Sam has also returned to daycare, which has allowed me the chance to sneak in a few naps every so often with Nate. I am scheduled to return to work on November 28th, which will be here very soon. Sam has done wonderful with adjusting to her role as a big sister and doesn’t seem to mind that Nate is here to stay. Nate is doing well, his jaundice is all gone and follows in the steps of his big sister when it comes to eating. (HE LOVES TO EAT!) We have put some new pictures on the website, so please check them out.
No commentsWe finally arrived home from the hospital tonight (Tuesday) at around 7:00. We were scheduled to leave yesterday, but the pediatrician found that Nate had a mild case of jaundice and wanted to keep him under a phototherapy lamp for a day. The lamp worked well and his bilirubin level (pigment in the blood that causes jaundice) came way down today and he was cleared to go home. (Mom was formally discharged Monday but we were allowed to stay the extra day.) Nate will get another blood test tomorrow morning and has his first pediatrician appointment on Thursday.
Mom is still doing great and is very happy to be home. Sam is staying with Gramma and Grampa one more night. We can’t wait to see her tomorrow! More pictures coming soon.
No commentsIt’s a Boy!
Nathan John Menier was welcomed into the world on Friday 9/16 2005 at 12:47 PM. He weighed in at a healthy 9 lbs 10 oz (2 oz heavier than Sam) and measured 21 inches long (2 inches longer than Sam). Both Mom and Baby are doing fantastic. Nate has been a very calm and quiet baby so far like Sam was, but unlike Sam, he learned to eat in no time and has hardly stopped since!
Mom is recovering from surgery very quickly. She is already back to a normal diet and is up and moving around. It’s been even smoother than last time, but it certainly helps that she didn’t endure 13 hours of labor this time around.
Sam met her new baby brother last evening. At first she just stared at him for the longest time. After that she was more interested in finding things to play with, but she wasn’t the least bit shy about approaching him and giving him a kiss when asked.
Mom, Dad and Nate will be at the hospital until Monday, and Sam will be staying with Grandma and Grandpa. We look forward to coming home and settling in with the new addition to the family. Thanks to everyone for your visits, calls, and emails wishing us well!
Some pictures of Sam from this summer are coming next, followed immediately by new Baby Nate pictures!

Hope everyone had a great summer! Ours was fun, but now that it’s over the real excitement begins. For those who don’t know, Sam will be a big sister in just ONE DAY! Mandy’s C-section is scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) at 11:30 am at Fairview Ridges hospital in Burnsville. We don’t know the sex, and therefore we don’t know the name. (We’ve got it narrowed down to a few options, though. (The name, that is.))
Mandy is definitely ready to be done. As you might recall, Sam was a big baby (9 lbs, 8 oz), and every indication suggests that her kid brother or sister could be even bigger. It’s also been a much more active baby than Sam. But other than the discomfort and difficulty getting a good night’s sleep, Mom is doing quite well under the circumstances.
Hopefully Sam doesn’t mind sharing her web space with her new brother or sister; we’ll be posting all the news and of course plenty of pictures just as soon as we can!
No commentsHope everybody is having a nice summer! Sam’s got off to a sad start when she lost her most faithful little pal, Rocky. He had recurring problems with a calcified disc in his back, and the most recent episode (we don’t even know what set it off) left him paralyzed in the lower half of his body. There wasn’t much the vet could do for him, and everyone seemed to agree that that was no way for him to live. We hope to get another puppy sometime, but maybe not for a couple years.
Otherwise, Sam is doing great. Her vocabulary has grown by leaps and bounds in recent weeks. “Car”, “birdy”, “please”, “thank you”, “love you”, “banana”, and “Elmo” are some of her favorites. And when she’s in the mood, with a little encouragement, she can even count to 5!
Baby #2 is also doing very well, as is Mommy. We had an ultrasound on May 11 and everything looks great! The due date has been moved up to September 17. We decided that we’re once again not going to find out the sex. Since it’s going to be another C-section, we needed something to give it a little drama!
No commentsHappy Spring! (Although it sure doesn’t feel like it in these parts.) Hope everybody survived another winter.
Big news: For those who haven’t heard yet, Sam is gonna be a big sister! Mom is about 12 weeks along. The first trimester was relatively uneventful which, obviously, is a good thing. She had her first doctor appointment this week and we heard a heartbeat already. The official due date is September 22, which will be about a month shy of Sam’s 2nd birthday.
